Report: EA rejects Mirror’s Edge 2 pitch News – Page 1 | Eurogamer.net:
EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped – involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror’s Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity.
I’m really sad to hear this, since I loved the first Mirror’s Edge, but I’m definitely not surprised. The press wasn’t head over heals for Mirror’s Edge and I don’t think the sales were super great. It was a great game that deserved a sequel, if for nothing else than a chance to take the pretty interesting base mechanics it presented and hopefully get a better story behind in a more fleshed out world.

Here’s the new artwork for the PSP part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis. Some cheeky Japanese person changed the artwork into this.

The first of the two characters have been changed and instead of reading Type-0 (rei-shiki), it now reads Funeral (sou-shiki).

Just in case you haven’t found it already, Alex and I have a new comedy show called, I Don’t Know If You Know This. It’s not game-focused, but it does have game content at times. If you liked Snatchcast more because it made you laugh than informed you, we think you’ll like I Don’t Know If You Know This.

Contrary to internet rumors, Snatchcast is not dead. The cast might be changing, but Pixelsnatch will carry on. There was no show this week, but there will be one final classic-style Snatchcast next week, and then there will be at least a couple shows in August while I’m back in the US. From September, Snatchcast will be back with regular shows. Longtime friend of Pixelsnatch, Gabe Glick will be appearing on Snatchcast in a more regular capacity, and we might just talk about current games and game news for once!

While there’s not an actual box for Yakuza 4, the first few minutes after I opened it up were quite exciting. While Japan doesn’t quite do pre-order bonuses, they do do early purchase bonuses. The Yakuza games always come with Kamutai Magazine. Usually crafted as a weekly publication that might actually appear in the game world, the one for Yakuza 3 was filled with real world ads, ads for the hostess bars in the game, and the quality of the paper was fantastic. It felt like a semi-expensive magazine. The one for Yakuza 4 though is small, flimsy, and lacks the high level of polish and character that the previous one had. The new one amounts to little more than a couple pages of interview, some short character bios, and a list of all the food and drinks you can buy in-game. It’s just a bonus, but I wish they maintained the high level of quality of the previous Kamutai Magazine.

Also of note, there was not only a flyer for the strategy guide in the case, but also for a real pachinko parlor chain that appears in game. Slightly weird in that even at the legal age you can buy this game, 17, you can’t enter a pachinko parlor in real life.
The install of the game took a while. I didn’t clock it, but the five gigabyte install took long enough that my PS3 controller auto-powered off. I was killing time taking pictures of stuff and drinking my Yakuza 4 tie-in beer, so it didn’t really bug me. They do however have music looping during the install, and they display character models moving about next to character profiles for each of them. After I fired it up, I went through all the options menus, and found that when connected to PSN, you’ll be able to get updated ads for billboards in the game. Does a lot to make the world seem more real. I really hope they update the magazine racks at the convenient stores too. Also, you can upload scores of games you play at the arcade and will be able to check your ranking. And there is also a “Special” Karaoke section with one song already available. I hope they will be adding extra songs to the game down the road. I’ll be talking about the game on Snatchcast 035, and for a while after its release. If you have any specific questions about the game, leave them in the comments or email info at pixelsnatch.com.
